Plants vs. Zombies Peashooter Plant

Peashooter from Plants vs. Zombies

Ah the lowly but reliable Peashooter in Plants vs. Zombies. This is your basic offensive ranged weapon in the game. It shoots a single pea at a time at the zombies doing normal damage. One key advantage early on is that it only costs 100 sun to plant and it has a fast recharge time. In the first few stages of the game, you’ll be planting a lot of these. However, as the game progresses and you start fighting tougher zombies, you’ll probably leave the Peashooter behind for the more advanced weapons in your seed packet collection.

Here’s the official background on the Peashooter from the game:

How can a single plant grow and shoot so many peas so quickly? Peashooter says, “Hard work, commitment, and a healthy, well-balanced breakfast of sunlight and high-fiber carbon dioxide make it all possible.”

Plants vs. Zombies Chomper Plant

Chomper

One of my favorite plants in Plants vs. Zombies is the Chomper Plant. This guy isn’t the best overall plant, but he’s one of the most fun ones. Basically, he is a single kill plant that eats up zombies whole. He can kill any zombie except the Gargantuar and Dr. Zomboss (the big boss at the very end). Anything else is lunch. The chomper can even eat zombies from a full square away, meaning that you can set up a Chomper behind a Wall-nut or Tall-nut and it will gobble up from a safe distance.

The really important thing to know about the Chomper, though, is that while it’s chewing and devouring a zombie it is very vulnerable. The Chomper needs about 45 seconds to fully eat a zombie so during that time it’s ineffective. You’ll really need to protect Chompers while they chew. A common technique is to place your Chompers behind a row of Wall-nuts. They’ll eat the first zombies that approach the Wall-nut line and then will have enough time to finish their snack and eat again. Of course, Chompers aren’t enough of a defense by themselves, but they are great for taking out the tougher zombies like the Bucketheads and the Pole Vaulting Zombies.

Plants vs. Zombies Wall-nut Bowling Guide

Wall-nut bowling is a fun mini-game in Plants vs. Zombies that plays a little differently than most of the game. You were first introduced to this game in stage 1 of Adventure Mode, but this mini-game is considerably tougher to beat. In Wall-nut Bowling, you roll different types of Wall-nuts at an oncoming wave of Zombies. The Wall-nuts are your only weapon. This game is all about timing and understanding the critical importance of rebounds. Your success will largely depend on how good you are at using the Wall-nut rebounds to take out several zombies at a time.

Plants vs. Zombies Wall-nut Bowling

Knock lots of Zombies over in Wall-nut Bowling.

Here’s a look at the different zombies you’ll face in this mini-game. There are a bunch of them!

  • Zombie
  • Flag Zombie
  • Conehead Zombie
  • Buckethead Zombie
  • Newspaper Zombie
  • Pole Vaulting Zombie

And you’ll have the following weapons to battle the onslaught.

  • Wall-nut
  • Exploding Wall-nut
  • Lawnmowers (your last line of defense)

Basic Strategy

The Wall-nuts and Exploding Wall-nuts work just like bowling balls. Whenever they hit a zombie, they will bounce off that zombie at an angle and have the potential to hit other zombies until they reach the end of the screen. Use this to your advantage: a little patience is worthwhile here. You can let a zombie approach until there are other zombies behind it in other lanes and then attempt to take out several with one shot.

Regular zombies will die on one hit, but Coneheads, Bucketheads, and Newspaper zombies require multiple hits to kill. Pole vaulting zombies will jump over the first Wall-nut that crosses their path, but after that they are vulnerable.

Whenever you hit multiple zombies with a single Wall-nut, you can get coins. In fact, the number of coins you get grows quickly with multiple hits on one throw:

  • Hit one zombie: zero coins
  • Hit two zombies: one silver coin
  • Hit three zombies: two silver coins
  • Hit four zombies: three silver coins
  • Hit five zombies: gold coin and Roll Some Heads Achievement

Once you get the hang of things, you can use this mini-game as a great way to rapidly earn coins. In fact, it makes sense to play this mini-game several times over once you unlock the mini-games and use it to earn enough coins to get some of the key items from Crazy Dave’s Shop.

Here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind. First, remember that when you roll a Wall-nut down the middle, it’s rebound direction is random. But when you roll it on the top or bottom row, it will always rebound down or up, respectively. And they always reverse direction on subsequent hits, following a zig-zag pattern. This is really important to keep in mind when you’re trying to hit four or five zombies in a row. Finally, don’t forget that you have the lawnmowers as your last line of defense. Don’t be afraid to use them, especially in the later stages of the mini-game when you have a lot of zombies coming at you in a single lane. Of course once you use one, you must protect that lane at all costs.

Wall-nut bowling is a fun mini-game and a great diversion for a little break. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to earn coins early on. Have fun with it!
